No. With a new reel the ball bearing works fine but inevitably the bearing will become noisy and rough. Our line roller contains a hi-performance bushing that will not wear out, will not need lubrication and will not become noisy.

The reason is simple - they are not needed. There are four (4) major areas where a ball bearing is required for strength and performance, putting a ball bearing in anywhere else is not necessary.

The SX series is the top of the line series. There are 3 main differences between the two series.

1. While both reels come with stainless steel ball bearings, the SX comes with an upgraded, ABEC hi-precision stainless steel ball bearings.
2. The SX series comes with a stainless steel main shaft, the XL series comes with a chrome steel shaft.
3. The 230 and 240SX rotors are built from aircraft grade carbon fiber as is the 230SX sideplate. Aircraft grade carbon fiber is light weight but stronger than standard composite material.
